I enjoy working with the “subtle” -  sensing and directing energy or chi, and using intuition in combination with Reiki, Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling, Acupressure, to determine and then engage with the root cause of your imbalances at all levels of being.

I have studied and worked with alternative healing systems for over 30 years, being certified as a massage therapist by the McKinnon Institute in Oakland, CA in 1980, and adding other bodywork modalities over the next three decades, including deep tissue, muscle balancing, hot stone massage, Reiki and acupressure.  I stopped doing massage in 2009, and now offer the highly effective combination of Acupressure, Reiki, Muscle Balancing and Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling.

Reiki.  I was first attuned to Reiki  by Reiki Master Kathy Lopez in 1995, working at Levels 1 and 2 for several years before being attuned to Level 3 by local Reiki Master Adam Young in 2000.  In 2005, I completed the course for Reiki Master III and Reiki Master Teacher class at the Massage Therapy Institute in Davis, taught by DB McPeek.  In 2013, I was attuned to Level II for Reiki for Animals by Kathleen Prasad, and have added this to my Reiki practice.

Acupressure.  In 1998, I began training at the Acupressure Institute because I felt it would make the massages I gave even more effective.  I completed the 850-hour program at the Acupressure Institute in 2007, becoming a Certified Acupressure Therapist. This training included specializations in Stress Management, Women’s Health Issues, along with classes in Chinese herbs. My 150+-hour project was drafting a manual on how to relieve migraines through acupressure, muscle balancing and targeted deep muscle work.  I continued to integrate Acupressure with massage sessions for another three years, and now offer it as a standalone modality, or in combination with Reiki and Muscle Balancing.  I was certified as an Acu-Yoga® teacher in Acu-Yoga®  by Michael Reed Gach.

Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling.  From 1996 to 2000, I studied Ayurveda and integrative herbology at the Evergreen Herb Garden and Ministry with Candis Cantin, and was certified as an Ayurveda Lifestyle Counselor and lay minister.  This course of study covered herbs used in Ayurveda, Chinese, and Western systems. I enjoy offering Ayurveda Lifestyle Counseling to assist clients in understanding how their specific physical constitution, or pakruti, can be either supported or thrown off balance by the choices they make, including foods, activities, jobs, and environments. Doing this work is key to begin rebalancing stubborn chronic conditions.

Muscle Balancing.  I was trained in Muscle Balancing by John Sibbet of Sacramento, CA in the 1990's and incorporate this technique in sessions to release specific holding patterns, spasms and knots in individual muscles and muscle groups.

One of the many lovely things about working with these modalities is that they go beyond what basic massage can accomplish; by working at a more subtle level, the client's relaxation and healing experience starts from the deeper levels and expands outward, creating a more encompassing experience of relaxation, vitality and well being, rather than trying to affect a change by massaging the muscles.

Currently, I work out of a dedicated space in my home, in a quiet, peaceful neighborhood.  My specialization is in women's health concerns.  I do accept male clients by a referral from a reliable source.  If you have any questions or would like to set an appointment, please contact me by email - journeyhh@comcast.net or acureiki.janfiore@gmail.com.  I look forward to hearing from you!
